Schools taking part in YEAR 1:

Alderman Peel High School, Wells-next-the-Sea
Cromer High School & Language College
Earlham High School
Hellesdon High School
The Hewett School, Norwich
Sprowston High School & Arts College

605 Year 8 students and their teachers visited the theatre to see two productions: Shakespeare's R&J in October 2008 and Rannel Theatre Company in February 2009. The project began with an Teachers' Inset Day with the director and actors from Shakespeare's R&J followed by in-school assembly workshops by Rannel, competition offers, ending with an Exhibition of students' work in our theatre foyers in June.

Hellesdon High School created a winning entry that included set design and dance work based on the two productions. They then went on to perform their dance piece at the Norfolk Show in July. And the Year 1 Exhibition is now on show at the Professional Development Centre in Norwich for the month of September.

The Start Programme has encouraged the Playhouse to build local partnerships, and we are especially grateful for advice and support from Norfolk County Council Marketing Department, NCC Children's Services, Norfolk Dance and Jarrold's Books.

Competition Winners for YEAR 1:
1st prize - Hellesdon High School, mixed media entries
2nd prize - The Hewett School, mixed media entries
3rd prize - Sprowston High School, visual arts entries
