An epic piece of African drama in the Yoruba tradition featuring theatre, dynamic dances, masquerade, powerful music and elborate costumes.

Education Programme
In schools'workshops take place during the week of 29 September. All Osun performers have a broad knowledge of the traditional and contemporary artistic skills and history of their respective cultures and their impact on cultural heritage in Britain. Students have the opportuntiy to work alongside company members. Workshop themes:
Drama - Anti-bullying, African Legends, Myths and Meanings
Dance - African styles and rituals. Specific themes to be agreed. African attire supplied
Music - tallking drums, traditional hand-made shakers and bells

Original Theatre Company presents

SHAKESPEARE'S R+J

Set in the 1950’s at an exclusive boarding school, four pupils run into the chapel late one night in a bid to escape from their repressive school routines and begin reading the story of Romeo and Juliet aloud. School and social rules are addressed and shattered as the students come to understand the real price of challenging fate and the true dangers of forbidden love.

As the stories of both Romeo and Juliet and the four lads unfold during the course of one thrilling evening; audience and actors alike discover the power of theatre and the new worlds it can open up. Highly energetic, physical and packed with the energy of youth and beauty of Shakespeare language this really is Shakespeare at his most accessible and daring.

In schools English and Drama workshops - what's the best way to study Shakespeare? Up and on your feet! Work with cast members from Original Theatre's R&J to discover how they brought this unusual adaptation from page to stage.
90 minutes for ages 14-16; maximum students: 30
cost: £175 (no vat)

Shakespeare's R&J is a Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts START 2008-09 production, working in partnership with Norwich Playhouse, Norfolk County Education, Jarrold's and the following Norwich and North Norfolk schools: The Hewett School, Hellesdon High School, Earlham High School, Sprowston High School, Alderman Peel High School and Cromer High School.

In Schools' Workshops are tailored to cover any age or number of attendees, and can last from between one hour and a whole day. Prices start at £125 (+vat) for up to two hours.

  • overview of Dickens' novels, exploring language, background and relevance today

PERFECT FOR ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

A high-impact show that tackles bullying and victimisation, providing an important focus for schools' anti-bullying campaigns, policy and related PSHE.

Each performance includes a live theatre interaction event. Cast members join with the audience to explore some of the paths they could take to contfont bullying creatively. the message that 'we are all responsible for bullying' is central.

PLUS FREE OFFER
Actionwork offers a free follow-up lesson plan and anti-bullying resource DVD for the first 16 schools to book. Extra DVDs are available for purchase at £10 each.
