After their uproariously unexpected version of Rossini’s Barber of Seville (The Barber of Savile Row at The Playhouse in May 2008), Unexpected Opera returns with Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, adapted as Orpheus Down Under. 

How will Eurydice escape the suburbs and her intolerable husband, Orpheus? What’s it like to go down under with the King of the Underworld? Can Team Olympus out-do themselves? And is the barbecue sauce on Bondi beach really better than ambrosia? 

Offenbach's delightfully disrespectful tale loses none of its pith and verve in this uproarious updating. A couple on the verge of divorce become entangled with the Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology, who are themselves embroiled in international competition as 'Team Olympus.'  

Full of charming songs and witty dialogue, it is performed by a cast of 12 and live musicians. Enjoy a global romp with the opera that introduced the world to the can-can!
